چکیده

A 25-year-old female presented with sudden-onset dyspnoea. A chest X-ray showed total atelectasis on the left haemithorax (Fig. 1). A chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a cystic mass in the posterior mediastinum that compressed the left main bronchus (Fig. 2). Pathological examination confirmed a broncho-genic cyst in the posterior mediastinum. Figure 1: Chest X-ray showing total atelectasis on the left haemithorax. Figure 2: (A) Chest CT scan showing a mediastinal cystic mass and deviated mediastinal structures with atelectasis. (B) Coronal CT image showing compression of the left main bronchus and distal atelectasis. BC: bronchogenic cyst; E: oesophagus; white arrow: obstructed left main bronchus.

Chirurgie Thoracique/ Thoracique Surgery Infected Bronchogenic Cyst Simulating Acute Severe Exacerbation of Bronchial Asthma

Upper airway obstruction classically produces stridor. However, wheezes can be a feature of upper airway obstruction under certain conditions in which case it becomes a diagnostic challenge. A case of infected mediastinal bronchogenic cyst earlier managed as bronchial asthma is presented to highlight such feature. A seven year old African boy presented with a 3-day history of cough and fever; a...

Recurrent mediastinal bronchogenic cyst. Cause of bronchial obstruction and compression of superior vena cava and pulmonary artery.

The recurrence of a benign mediastinal bronchogenic cyst 20 years after partial excision precipitated potentially serious vascular and pulmonary complications. Aggressive total surgical excision should be feasible in the majority of cases. An approach via a median sternotomy offers distinct advantages in certain cases and should be considered. Computerized axial tomographic scanning promises to...

Left atrial compression by a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst presenting with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts develop from abnormal budding of the primitive tracheobronchial tree. They are usually located in the mediastinum at the level of the tracheal bifurcation. In adults they are frequently asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally on the chest radiograph. As they enlarge they may cause symptoms referable to tracheal, bronchial, or oesophageal compression.' Extrins...

An unusual cause of bronchial obstruction

We present here a case of bronchial obstruction secondary to late paradoxical reactive enlargement and erosion by mediastinal lymph nodes into the left main bronchus in a 26-year-old woman with tuberculosis lymphadenitis. Bronchial obstruction due to paradoxical reactions, especially in the late phase of treatment, has not been described in adults before.
